This story presents a young boy’s romantic feeling about a girl whom he had met before. The boy Santiago would love travelling and learning many things of different places. Now, Santiago arrived at the church with his sheep after a year and he is much excited to meet the Moorish girl. He was in deep love but he had not met her for a year. He had arrived there travelling many places, seeing many women but there was no one like the merchant’s daughter. He put the book as his pillow, imagined to have even thick book so that it would last longer and he would have more comfortable pillow for him (a), covered with his jacket, placed all the sheep beside the church, and slept dreaming to meet the merchant’s daughter but it would take the whole day to reach there. His parents had desired him to be a priest, be happy in living at home and manage food and water. He had gone to seminary (school) till sixteen and studied theology, Latin and Spanish. He wanted to travel the world and told his father that he did not want to be priest, but a traveler. Father said that only shepherd -e]8f uf]7fnf]_travels, and he was ready to be shepherd (e). His father gave him gold coins and blessings to buy the flock of sheep.
After being shepherd, he visited many places and started to communicate with his sheep, comment the places they visited with the sheep. He and the sheep had full understanding, they would understand each other well (b). He walked in the Andalusian terrain (area) for two years and knew all places of the region. In that region (area) of Andalusia, he met a merchant’s daughter in the village where he gone to sell the wool. There was queue and he had to wait till noon and he started to read a book, which startled (surprised) the girl that how a shepherd learnt to read. Then, he told his past how he became a shepherd which really impressed her. if I were Santiago, I would express my love in the same way (g). He started to love the Moorish girl, who was beautiful having black hair, black eyes, and gentler (c,d).
. He was always in her dream. He wanted to discover more from more travelling. He thought he was different from his sheep; his sheep only think about food and water like his parents but he wanted to explore as much as he could do. His parents were not adventure like the sheep (i). He wondered if another shepherd arrived and took her hand and his dream would not be fulfilled but he remembered a woman in Tarifa who would interpret dreams. I think the woman would interpret that his dream would come true and he could marry her and they would live their whole life happily (h).
