A Smile

Summary
This poem presents smile as a communicable disease in irony. Smile has physical and mental effects.
Smile is a funny thing that looks exciting in its display and appearance. The poet calls smile a funny thing because it has more functions, mysteries and funs (a). Smile can do a lot of things (b). People admire smile, and desire it. We are crazy of smile but we hardly think about its reality. When we smile, it wrinkles our face. The ugly thing in beauty is hard to notice. When smile is over, the folded skin hides in secret place; the place is mysterious in the face or it might be heart where the smile hides and creates feelings and emotions (c). Smile is temporary, and wonderful. Smile has a return. If we give smile at one, we will be smiled at. One action has two consequences; one smile makes two. Smile has double consequences. It displays with give and take. Smile lacks spirituality, humanity, truthfulness and it has no connections with sacred feelings. It has become like a commodity in the market to exchange. So, the true spirit of smile is no longer found today. The poet calls smile a ‘communicable’ disease because a smile is replied with only another smile.
